Growing up, I never really liked my curly hair. I was always jealous of my friends with thin, stick straight hair and how they never had to worry about frizz or bad hair days. Luckily I embraced my curly hair around my junior year of high school when I learned from a fellow curly haired friend that if you don’t fight the curls, they can actually be pretty amazing.
Now, I can’t even remember the last time I straightened my hair and love that when I’m out and about with my two curly haired kiddos, everyone looks to me and says something to the like “well I guess we know where they get those gorgeous curly locks from.”
In fact, one of the first things people say to my daughter is usually something about how beautiful her hair is, and until recently, I would always thank them but then follow up with a comment about how awful the tangles were and how it takes forever to comb out her hair. Then I realized that by always saying something negative about her curls in response to genuine compliments, I was just setting her up for hating her curls like I used to. So now, I just thank people and agree that they truly are beautiful.
I’m so excited that Dove Hair just introduced the Dove Love Your Curls Emojis – the first emoji keyboard designed to represent curly girls everywhere so those of us with curls can express ourselves emoji-style!
Download the Dove Love Your Curls Emojis in the App Store and Google Play Store to show you #LoveYourCurls! The curly haired baby is so freaking cute and I love the umbrella since as a curly haired woman, I know how devastating the rain can be!
It runs in the family, here’s a picture of me, my little sister and my daughter. Ignore the giant bite of chips and queso she’s stuffing in her face, she’s a Texan at heart. It was actually drizzling a bit that night and we managed to stay relatively frizz-free thanks to the umbrella!
